Groundwater Hydrogeology Contamination Assessments

The FGS Group provides a wide range of of groundwater and hydrogeological contamination assessment and remediation services:

Contamination Assessment and Site Remediation

Leaking Underground Storage Tanks (LUSTs) - implement contamination assessment investigations of sites with chemical or petroleum underground storage tanks and subsequently, make recommendations for system compliance upgrades, tank abandonment, remedial action, etc.

Herbicide/Pesticide Remediation - preparation and implementation of a corrective action plan (CAP), to define the horizontal and vertical extent of soil, groundwater and/or surface water impact and to develop a remedial action program to effectively remediate the documented contamination. Soil and groundwater cleanup standards will be dependent on the regulatory agency's site assignment as industrial or residential. In accordance with the regulatory agency guidelines,"Corrective Actions for Contaminated Site Cases", target cleanup levels will be specified, and an acceptable site specific cleanup effort will be initiated.

Remedial Action and Site Clean-Up - coordinate with FDEP for clients forpreparation of consent orders, determination of recommended remedial action, and coordination of on-site cleanup. Products may include, Preliminary Contamination Assessment Plans (PCAPs), Contamination Assessment Plans (CAPs),Contamination Assessment Reports (CARs), and Remedial Action Plans (RAPs).

Petroleum Assessment/Remediation - prepare work plans and cost proposalsfor approval by the FDEP for petroleum contaminated sites registered in the State cleanup programs (ATRP, EDI, PLLRP). Implement approved work plans to assess the extent of soil contamination and/or groundwater plume. Necessary remedial actions will be proposed and implemented based o level of contaminant concentrations in accordance with FDEP regulations.

Solvent Assessment/Remediation - preparation and implementation of a corrective action plan (CAP) to delineate the horizontal and vertical extent of soil and groundwater contamination. Assessment activities will include studies of organic content in soil, retardation factors of each lithologic zone to study methods of contaminant transport. Cleanup level will be in accordance with FDEP’s regulatory standards and Site Rehabilitation Levels (SRLs). Site-Specific remedial alternativeswill be selected so that an acceptable cleanup effort may be conducted.

RCRA Management/Closure Plans - development and implementation of a linear process RCRA Facility Assessment (RFA) Plan. The RFA will cost effectively identify the solid waste management units (SMWUs) at the facility and define the extent of these SWWUs and the associated impact. The information is compiled from the facility self report (required by EPA for a RCRA permit application), a site visit conducted by EPA and FGS, a thorough historical and environmental records search and additional field investigation as warranted. To close a facility FGS wouldcomplete one or more of the following three alternatives: 1) prepare a corrective action plan; 2)propose a clean or health-based clean closure; or 3) proceed directlyinto post-closure, which may require the implementation of corrective action in addition to the post-closure requirements.

Right-of-Way Acquisition Studies - development and implementation of a systematic and proven successful process, to identify known and/or suspected hazardous waste generators, handlers, and disposal sites located along or within land to be acquired by State and/or Federal Department of Transportation (DOT) for multi-laning or right-of-way improvements projects. Potential hazardous waste sources within project areas may include, but not be limited to the following: service stations and convenience stores with underground petroleum storage tanks, auto maintenance centers, dry cleaning facilities and known landfills or other waste sites.

Hydrogeological Services

Compliance Monitoring - perform surface water and groundwater compliance monitoring in accordance with applicable permit requirements for private industry, municipalities and landfills.

Evaluation of Wastewater Reuse Facilities (Spray Irrigation, PercolationPond, etc.) - Perform hydrogeologic evaluations and subsequently, design wastewater reuse facilities utilizing groundwater computer models.

Groundwater Monitoring Systems - design and permit groundwater-monitoring systems for wastewater reuse facilities, underground storage tanks, landfills, etc.

Groundwater Studies - perform groundwater/ hydrogeologic studies such as G-1aquifer studies, aquifer pump tests, time and travel studies, seepage and flowstudies, contaminant transport models, etc.

Infiltration Testing - perform infiltration tests utilizing the double ring infiltration method and other methods to determine the rate of infiltration.

Shallow Hydrogeologic Investigations - perform hand augering, soil classifications, and place piezometers in order to develop surficial aquifer contour maps.

Conduct Groundwater Monitoring Programs - implement groundwatermonitoring programs to satisfy Development of Regional Impact (DRI) Development Orders or regulatory permit conditions.

Miscellaneous Hydrogeologic Support - provide support on a variety of projects such as DRI's, feasibility studies, roadway design, septic tank/drainfield systems, etc.
